Thyssen Museum free hours
Monday 12:00–16:00, the collection. Saturday 21:00–23:00, temporary shows only.
Also on: GetYourGuide from €14
| Slot | What you see free | Ticket needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, 12:00–16:00 | Permanent Collection | No |
| Saturday, 21:00–23:00 | Temporary shows on the ground floor and floor -1 | No, entry until capacity is reached |
Monday: the collection
This is your slot for Caravaggio, Rembrandt or Hopper at no cost. You walk into the permanent Collection without a ticket, and your visit is limited to those four hours, because on Mondays the museum only opens from 12:00 to 16:00. The shop and café keep the same hours.
Temporary exhibitions don't all follow one rule: some open free and others close that day. Each one says which on the museum website.
Saturday night: temporary shows only
From 21:00 to 23:00 you see the temporary exhibitions on the ground floor and floor -1. When there's no temporary show on the ground floor, the Carmen Thyssen Collection opens free. Floors 1 and 2, home to the main collection, are left out.
Here too it depends on the exhibition: the museum publishes for each one whether it's part of the Saturday slot.
Who gets in free on any day
- Under-18s. Under-12s must be with an adult.
- Carné Joven youth card holders, physical or digital.
- Holders of Madrid's Abono de Transporte Joven travel pass, aged 18 to 25.
- Working teachers in formal education.
- People legally registered as unemployed.
- People with a disability of 33% or more, and their companion if an official document says so.
- Family groups of at least one adult and three children on the same large-family certificate, with tickets from one purchase and at the same time.
Mutua Madrileña members with a SOY card get up to two free tickets, valid on the day they're collected. Show the card plus your DNI (Spanish ID card), passport or driving licence. Company cards don't count.
Being a student doesn't get you in free: you pay €10, the same as over-65s and pensioners.
