Is the tower worth it?
The difference is €3 and a narrow spiral staircase of 152 steps. In return you get views over the old city. If your legs are up to it and you're only here for the day, climb it. If you're carrying small children or have reduced mobility, the ticket without the tower gives you the main sights.
The Palace and Museum take 45 minutes, which leaves plenty of time for the rest of the city.
Dodge the rush hour
The Alcázar itself says the biggest crowds tend to come between 11:00 and 13:30. If you can, go in first thing or after lunch.
Free Tuesdays for EU citizens
14:00–16:00, EU citizens only, at the ticket office and without the tower. It's handy if you're in Segovia on a Tuesday anyway, but it depends on capacity, so don't plan the trip around it: the general ticket is only €7.
If tickets are sold out
The ticket with the tower is the first to go at weekends, on long weekends and on public holidays. If you can't find one, try Palace + Museum or the guided walking tours of Segovia that include Alcázar entry. Always check what's included, because entry is sometimes optional on day trips from Madrid.
