Last admission is one hour before closing. Reduced for European youth card (carnet joven europeo) holders; EU citizens who are over 65, retired or legally unemployed; EU citizens with proof of student status; people with a disability of 33% or more; and large-family card holders.

The castle alone or with the joint ticket

Each monument costs €7, so two separate tickets come to €14. The joint ticket is €10, or €5 reduced. There's more detail on the Alcazaba page.

Nobody pays on Sundays from 14:00. From November to March the last entry is at 17:00, which leaves you a free window of three hours.

Bus or walk to the top

EMT line 35 links the castle with the historic centre, with a bus roughly every 30 minutes. On foot, the climb along Paseo de Don Juan Temboury takes about 20 minutes. The castle entrance is at Camino de Gibralfaro 11 and the Alcazaba's is on Calle Alcazabilla: they're separate ways in.

What to look for up there

The walls follow the ridge of a hill, 132 metres above sea level. Look out for the great albarrana tower in the north-west. The old powder store holds the Interpretation Centre, which explains the castle's life as a military garrison and coastal lookout from 1487 to 1925.

What the audio guide tickets add

Tickets with an audio guide cost more than the ticket office price, and the difference is what you pay for the guide.
