Wednesday is the day to pick
The Alcázar houses the Army Museum. Entry costs €5, and on Wednesdays it's free for everyone. On other days, check the free list. With proof, those who don't pay include under-18s, EU citizens over 65, pensioners, EU university students or ISIC card holders, large families, Carné Joven youth card holders and unemployed people.
Entry stops at 16:30, half an hour sooner than the closing time suggests, and rooms start to clear from 16:45. It's closed on Mondays, apart from those set by the museum.
What you can see without a ticket
Temporary exhibitions, the room called Los ejércitos antes del Ejército, the gardens and the archaeological remains are all free. So are the café and the shop.
Closed rooms and the cloakroom
As of 4 November 2026, rooms H5 (Restauración Monárquica) and H6 (Siglo XX) are closed for works. Bulky items and large bags aren't allowed in the rooms, but the left-luggage service is free.
The library has its own door
The entrance to the Biblioteca de Castilla-La Mancha is on Cuesta de Carlos V, at the corner of Cuesta de los Capuchinos. It opens Monday to Friday 8:30–21:00 and Saturdays 9:00–14:00, except in July and August. Entry is free, and there are views over the old town.
Guide or no guide
The museum runs a guided tour for €8, led by professional Toledo guides, and the entry ticket is paid separately. GetYourGuide also sells a guided tour of the museum. Some day trips from Madrid include the Alcázar of Segovia rather than this one, so read the title before buying. The rest is in the Toledo guide.

What are the Alcázar of Toledo's opening hours?
10:00–17:00. Entry stops at 16:30 and rooms start to clear at 16:45. It closes on Mondays, except those set by the museum: in 2026, 7 and 28 December remain.
