Sunday mornings are out
The cathedral doesn't open to visitors on Sunday mornings: that day starts at 14:00. The same goes for 6 and 23 January, 1 November, 8 December and several days in Holy Week. If Sunday is your only day, begin at other monuments and leave the cathedral for the afternoon.
Always go in through the Puerta Llana, on Calle Cardenal Cisneros. The shop that sells tickets is directly opposite. You can't leave and return on the same ticket, and rooms start to clear 10 minutes before closing.
Basic ticket or a guide
The plain ticket is sold only through the cathedral's own channels. Elsewhere, what you'll find is guided tours. To go on your own, buy the official ticket and leave it at that. If you want a guide, watch one detail: some tours include the ticket and one leaves it out. Trips from Madrid take care of transport, but check how long you'll spend inside.
Official tickets aren't refunded, unless there's a problem with entry.
Sacristy, Transparente and Lumina
The route includes the Capilla Mayor, the Transparente, the Choir, the Sacristy and the Cloister. If you're short of time, prioritise the chapter house and the sacristy, which holds the cathedral's most important El Greco works.
Lumina is a separate night-time outing. €33 buys the day and night tickets together, €3.90 less than buying them separately.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to enter Toledo Cathedral?
€12 for the basic ticket. The reduced ticket costs €8 and the children's ticket, for ages 8 to 14, €6. Under-8s get in free with a family member.
Is Toledo Cathedral ever free?
There's no free day for the general public. Those who don't pay are people born or living in the city of Toledo, people from the Archdiocese on Sundays only, and under-8s, all with proof.
What are Toledo Cathedral's opening hours?
Monday to Saturday 10:00–18:30, and Sundays 14:00–18:30. Entry stops 30 minutes before closing. Some dates have special hours, and it closes on 1 January and 25 December.
Does the Toledo tourist wristband include the cathedral?
No. The seven monuments on the Toledo Monumental wristband don't include the cathedral, which you pay for separately.
What is Lumina at Toledo Cathedral?
A night-time show of light, sound and video mapping inside the cathedral. It costs €24.90, or €33 together with the daytime ticket.
