What's in the Gallery
Opened in summer 2023, it sets out by period what Spain's monarchs collected over five centuries. Works by Juan de Flandes, Velázquez, Caravaggio, Bernini and Goya sit alongside tapestries, armour, furniture, books and musical instruments. Floor -1 covers the Habsburgs and floor -2 the Bourbons. Pieces rotate, so don't count on seeing a particular work.
The building earns a look too: you can't see it from the esplanade between the palace and the cathedral, and its halls are 120 metres long, with natural light and views outside.
Entry times, the free slot and the combined ticket
Tickets come with an entry time because capacity is capped. Buy online if your day is fixed.
The free slot is tight: entry ends at 19:15 and the rooms start clearing at 19:45. Walk in at 18:00 and you have an hour and three quarters, against the two hours the museum estimates for a visit. Tickets for it come from the ticket office only, and you must show proof of nationality or of your residence or work permit.
The official combined ticket with the Royal Palace costs €24, against €32 for the two bought separately. The time you pick is for the palace, and you can see the Gallery within the seven days before or after, except in the free slot.
Reseller prices vary a lot by product. Compare them with the official €14, and check what's included and the cancellation terms: Tiqets' tickets can't be cancelled.
Bags, under-14s and cool rooms
Anything bigger than 40 × 40 cm goes to the cloakroom or lockers. The cloakroom is free with your ticket. Under-14s must be with an adult. Bring a layer in summer: the rooms are kept cool to protect the pieces.
