Don't leave it to the last hour
Ticket offices and entry stay open until an hour before closing, but going in that late isn't worth it. Some animals head to their sleeping quarters before closing, and the shows cluster in the middle of the day. The sea lions and the birds have set show times, with more at weekends. Check the day's schedule on the website, because it can change.
Age sets the rate, the day sets the price
General covers ages 8 to 64, and the child rate covers ages 3 to 7. Online is a good deal cheaper than the ticket office, depending on the day you pick. Opening hours also go by date, so look at the official calendar before you set off.
Bus, car park and picnic areas
EMT city bus line 33 stops at the gate. The Casa de Campo metro station is about 900 metres away, a long walk with small children. The free car park opposite belongs to the city council and can fill up.
To save money, bring your own food: there are picnic areas inside the park. That isn't the case everywhere: Parque Warner, for one, doesn't let you bring food in.
Frequently asked questions
How much are Madrid Zoo tickets?
At the ticket office, €29.50 for ages 8 to 64, and €23.90 for ages 3 to 7 and the reduced rate. Online, from €19.90 and €16.90, depending on the day. Under-3s don't pay.
Can you bring food to Madrid Zoo?
Yes. The zoo has picnic areas where you can eat what you bring from home.
Is there parking at Madrid Zoo?
Opposite the entrance there's a free car park run by the city council, separate from the zoo and subject to availability. That's why the park recommends public transport.
