Plain ticket or day trip

If you have a car, buy on the official website: parking is free and you pay €1 less than at the ticket office. Every visit is the same, so there's no premium ticket to weigh up.

What Tiqets, GetYourGuide and Headout mostly sell is day trips from Palma, Alcúdia and other areas. They cost a good deal more than the ticket and take care of the journey to Porto Cristo. Check what each one includes before you pay. Without a car, the other route is the public TIB bus.

Your entry time is fixed

Every ticket is for a set time. Get there 15 minutes early, because the cave entrance is 200 metres from the car park. Miss your slot and you lose the ticket, and changes aren't allowed.

From 16 March to 31 October, the caves say the 10:00, 16:00 and 17:00 visits are usually the quietest. From 1 November to 15 March there are only four entry times: 10:30, 12:00, 14:00 and 15:30.

Inside the caves

You go in as a group with no guide, and staff lead the way. The route is about 1,200 metres with steps, down to a depth of 25 metres. It's between 17°C and 21°C inside, and rain doesn't affect the visit.

The highlight is the concert: about ten minutes of live classical music on Lake Martel, with four pieces played by a quartet. It has run since 1935, and photos and video are banned while it plays. You cross the lake by boat or on foot for nothing extra.

Who should think twice

Wheelchairs and strollers can't go in. The caves aren't recommended for people with coronary problems or claustrophobia. Under-12s must be with an adult. There are no lockers, and large luggage isn't allowed.
