Free for everyone on Sundays, Thursdays from 14:00, 18 April, 12 October and 6 December. With ID at the ticket office, free for, among others, under-18s and over-65s, students aged 18 to 25, Carné Joven youth card holders, people with disabilities and a companion, unemployed people, pensioners, large families and teachers.

Opening hours

Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 to 15:00. Sundays and public holidays, 10:00 to 15:00. Visitors are admitted until 30 minutes before closing and rooms are cleared 15 minutes before closing.

To see it properly, go early: admission ends at 14:30 and the rooms are cleared at 14:45.

Be careful on Thursday afternoons

The free slot on Thursdays starts at 14:00, but the museum's website gives 15:00 as closing time from Tuesday to Saturday. Madrid's tourist board says it's open until 19:00 on Thursdays. Given the mismatch, phone before you count on the afternoon: 91 549 26 41, Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00. Sunday is the safer free option.

Free entry with ID

With valid ID at the ticket office, free entry goes to, among others, under-18s and over-65s, students aged 18 to 25, Carné Joven youth card holders, pensioners, unemployed people, large families and teachers. People with disabilities get in free with a companion.

Museo del Traje

The Museo del Traje is a separate museum. Madrid's tourist board says it costs €3, is free on Saturdays from 14:00 and on Sundays, and opens Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 to 19:00. Both are covered by Madrid's 4-museum and 8-museum passes, at €8 and €16, as is the Cerralbo Museum.
